Our SAT & ACT Preparation Approach
For both the SAT and ACT, we have students work on the math sections through a program called MathChops and the grammar section of the SAT/ACT through a program called GrammarChops. These progems allow students to experience a broad range of questions at the level they are currently scoring and timed at their average time allowed per question. Students “level up” higher and higher, generally ending up at a score closely correlated to performance on the test itself.
We use the 8 sample Bluebook tests that SAT provides and the two full practice tests that ACT provides on their website, plus 4 sample tests provided in The Official ACT Prep Guide.
For students who need more sample tests, we work with an excellent program called Test Innovators that provides further sample tests and additional questions, sorted by category, for every section of the test.
What a Typical Test Prep Session Looks Like
A typical test prep session involves tutors and students going over questions students missed on the sample test assigned for homework, plus any questions missed on Mathchops/GrammarChops homework. Throughout the focus on questions missed and also following that portion of the session, we introduce and reinforce related topics, to prepare students for success when they next enconter these topics. We then assign important homework for the following session, which allows students to see and celebrate their progress.
