My child had struggled with math, we were looking for a tutor who was patient, supportive and could explain problems in a few different ways until our son understood. Dr. Oberman hit all these criteria. Not only did my son start understanding the concepts, he became more engaged in math and sciences as his self-confidence skyrocketed. He also has a great sense of humor that helps create a comfortable learning experience.
Dr. Oberman made me understand, through his patience and varied ways of teaching, that I really could learn geometry which felt impossible to me. This experience really improved my confidence, not just in math but in how to learn in other areas that I found difficult. Dr. Oberman pushed me to think critically, and it has served me greatly.
Dr Oberman is an outstanding educator in every sense! He has worked with both of my teenagers and has been able to connect with them because he has a great sense of humor, is kind, and is sensitive to each of their individual needs. He really ‘gets’ kids! He also has a deep understanding of the math curriculum and so is able to approach sessions with a vision of what each kid needs both in short and long term, and always communicates thoroughly about each session. I am grateful that my kids have had the opportunity to work with him, and will continue to do so.
Amidst all the chaos of junior and senior years of high school, I was looking for an AP Calculus tutor and came across Mr. Wolmer online. Having always been advanced in math, I was searching for someone who could not only prepare and test me well for the AP exam but a person who knew the concepts deeply and explained them even better. I’ve tutored with a few people prior to Mr. Wolmer in math, but no one came close to his level of knowledge. With a wide smile and heart for learning, Mr. Wolmer would always ask: “What are we tackling today, Gracie?” Thanks to working with Mr. Wolmer, I received a 5 on my AP Calculus Exam, decided upon pursuing an architectural engineering minor, and hold an even greater passion for mathematics today.
The easy part of this is saying that Allen Wolmer is a first-rate math tutor – for all ages – who has no equal. He tutored our daughters and he was superb. Besides being mathematically proficient, he meets them at their level. He is patient. He is precise. He is prepared. He is uber available. He follows up. He communicates perfectly with parents. He makes them better – much better – and gives them confidence. Again, that’s the easy part – the part you are paying for. The extra part – totally unexpected – is he is a first rate human being as well. Both our kids quickly grew to like him, trust him, and appreciate him. These non-tangibles put him in a league of his own and have nothing to do with his proficiency as a dedicated math tutor. All said, if you have the chance, work with him.
Mr. Wolmer, to say that my child improved tremendously in her 2nd semester Physics studies would be a massive understatement. With your support, she truly took ownership of her work, organized herself, continuously stayed on top of her assignments, and actively studied for quizzes and tests – and the results showed. Her grades came out this week and she finished with an A in Physics! She has proven to herself that she can truly achieve great things in the classroom even when things are hard.
Allen was an excellent tutor for my daughter in AP Calculus. I’m pretty sure she wanted to drop down to the regular (non-AP) until she started meeting with him. He helped her gain confidence with Chapter 1, which she definitely needed extra support on. She raved about how clearly he explained the difficult concepts. Allen has a great way of recognizing when a student truly grasps the material—he knew exactly when she was ready to continue on her own, without pushing unnecessary sessions. We really appreciated his honest approach and supportive teaching style. Even now, he remains a trusted resource if she needs help again. Highly recommend!
